53 UN-Habitat Model Projects 2013/2014
53 UN-Habitat Model Projects 2013/2014, Time to Think Urban
«The efforts of UN-Habitat have been focused on building a brighter future for developing cities, which are most in need of support in guiding the process of urbanization. This catalogue of projects centres on three fundamental generators of wealth and employment in cities: planning and urban design, urban law and urban economy. It includes experiences in applying UN-Habitat's methodolgy of community participation in the provision of basic services, housing and urban reconstruction. It also highlights how legislation, governance and soil treatment plays a key role in achieving urban transformation.»

Fabio Vanin (2013). Maputo, cidade aberta – Maputo, open city
Fabio
Vanin (2013). Maputo, cidade aberta – Maputo, open city.
The book is the result of the investigation conducted
in the Mozambican Capital by the author for his Ph.D in Urbanism (IUAV
University of Venice, IT) and aims at highlighting some of the most relevant
urban, architectural, social and cultural features of the city that are today
confronted with the rapid transformations caused by the economic growth of the
country. This delicate moment poses urgent questions on the future urban
development that is divided by opposed forces: the ambition of becoming another
Dubai and the struggle of keeping the existing identity.

Of Planting and Planning. The making of British colonial cities
«Of Planting and Planning explores how Britain used the formation of towns and cities as an instrument of colonial expansion and control throughout the Empire. Beginning with the seventeenth-century plantation of Ulster and ending with decolonization after the Second World War, Robert Home reveals how the British Empire gave rise to many of the biggest cities in the world and how colonial policy and planning had a profound impact on the form and functioning of those cities.
This second edition retains the thematic, chronological and interdisciplinary approach of the first, each chapter identifying a key element of colonial town planning. New material and illustrations have been added, incorporating the author's further research since the first edition. Most importantly, Of Planting and Planning remains the only book to cover the whole sweep of British colonial urbanism.»
